Remembering Lil Shawn, Our Forever Superhero

Living4LilShawn was created in honor of Shawn Michael Cannon Jr., lovingly known as Lil Shawn — a sweet, joyful, superhero-loving little boy whose smile, laughter, and kindness touched everyone around him. His family now carries his legacy forward by sharing his story, raising awareness for youth heart health, and helping protect children through screenings, CPR education, AED training, and lifesaving resources.

Lil Shawn

The Sweetest Boy With The Brightest Smile

Shawn Michael Cannon Jr., lovingly known as Lil Shawn, was born on February 12, 2015, to proud parents Shawn and Erika Cannon and three very excited big sisters. From day one, his smile was contagious. He brought joy everywhere he went, and his quick wit, bright energy, and infectious laugh had a way of lighting up every room he entered.

Lil Shawn had a gift for making people feel seen and loved. From Walmart greeters to Costco receipt checkers, he charmed everyone he met. He loved telling jokes, especially knock-knock jokes, and always knew how to make people smile. He loved spaghetti — at least two bowls — but if you asked him what he wanted for dinner, his answer was always a cheeseburger from In-N-Out Burger with spread, tomato, and ketchup only.

He also loved superheroes. From his Superman-themed baby shower to his Batman costumes at breakfast and his Spider-Verse themed room, superheroes were a big part of who he was. But to his family and everyone who knew him, Lil Shawn was the real superhero.

Turning Love Into Awareness, Education & Action

Lil Shawn left his family with a gift: a beautiful story, a powerful purpose, and a reason to keep going. Through Living4LilShawn, his family is committed to sharing his story with the world and helping protect the youth in their community through heart health awareness, education, and access to lifesaving resources.

There Was Nothing Lil Shawn Could Not Do

Lil Shawn lived with joy, confidence, and a full heart. In his last two years, he played both T-Ball and Minor B baseball for Delta Sunrise Little League. He was most famous for dancing at third base and was always ready to help his team. Even when he was not the one playing, he loved watching his sisters play softball — and he would even cheer for the opposing team.

He was also an avid bowler with a high game of 106, a proud student at Podesta Ranch Elementary School, and had recently completed first grade and promoted to second grade. The sky was no limit for Lil Shawn. He was thoughtful beyond his years, intentional with his kindness, gentle with his words, and deeply expressive in the love he had for his family.

Lil Shawn lived fully. He made connections wherever he went, brought light into everyday moments, and left a lasting impact that continues through everyone who loved him. He will always be with us. Let us all live for Lil Shawn.

Understanding the Importance of Youth Heart Screenings

As part of the Living4LilShawn mission, education plays a powerful role in helping families understand youth heart health, sudden cardiac arrest awareness, and the importance of being prepared. Heart screenings, CPR knowledge, and AED access can help communities take proactive steps toward protecting children and responding in an emergency.

In this video, Dr. Daniel Cortez, Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist, also known as “The Electrician,” shares valuable insight into heart health, awareness, and why these conversations matter for families, schools, teams, and communities.
